Dale Chihuly is recongized as the world's  most important glass artist and has been the subject of many museum exhibitions, books, and films. In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, he went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice where he witnessed the team approach to blowing glass. Working with a team of master glassblowers and assistants has enabled him to produce glass art at a scale and in a quantity that would be impossible working alone or with a single assistant. This sculpture was given to the Zimmerli as a gift from Michael Sodomick in honor of the Trevor Project and in memory of Tyler Clementi.
