Join Us for Art After Hours: First Tuesdays on October 6

The Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers stays open late on October 6 for Art After Hours: First Tuesdays, which kicks off at 5:30pm with singer/songwriter Brooke DiCaro, who performs throughout the evening. A half-hour, curator-led tour of States of Undress: Bathers and Nudes in Nineteenth-Century French Art begins at 6:00. The exhibition includes 20 prints and drawings, as well as a painting, demonstrating how French artists relied on tradition and training while updating the context for the nude figure in their works, which influenced people’s attitudes in accepting the modern nude. From 6:30 to 7:15, Dr. Norman Finkelstein presents the lecture “The Art of Medicine: The Relationship between Medicine and the Visual Arts through the Ages.” He is a graduate of Yale College, where he majored in History of the Arts. He then went on to Columbia University Medical School and built a career as a vascular surgeon in the New Brunswick area. At 7:00, Slide Jam returns for a new season with artists Jason Baerg and Elizabeth Demaray discussing their new work. An MFA candidate at Mason Gross, Baerg pushes boundaries in digital interventions in drawing, painting, and new media installation. Brooklyn-based Demaray is an interdisciplinary artist in the fields of art and technology, new media, and eco art, as well as an Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Rutgers University-Camden. 5:00 to 9:00pm. Free admission and complimentary refreshments.
